VIENNA – Residents of an apartment building in the Austrian capital faced a dangerous situation on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. According to police, a 33-year-old woman first damaged shared spaces in the building, then moved up to the attic and eventually climbed onto the roof. There, she began throwing roof tiles into the inner courtyard. The severity of the incident prompted police to call in the special WEGA intervention unit.

Residents alerted police after woman damaged building interior

The incident unfolded around noon in Vienna’s Wieden district, part of the city’s fourth district.

Several residents contacted police after witnessing the woman throwing objects in the stairwell and damaging parts of the building’s fittings.

When officers arrived, they found damaged walls and two destroyed fire extinguishers.

By that point, the woman had moved up to the attic area.

According to police, she continued her disruptive actions there—throwing objects from the attic into the building’s courtyard.

She climbed onto the roof and began throwing tiles

The situation escalated further.

The woman accessed the roof of the residential building through a rooftop hatch.

There, according to the Austrian police, she began picking up roof tiles and hurling them into the courtyard.

The falling tiles posed a serious risk to anyone passing below the building.

Police decided to call in members of the specialized WEGA unit, who are trained for handling dangerous interventions.

Special unit safely removed woman from rooftop

The incident was resolved without the woman falling from the roof.

According to police spokesperson Julia Schick, WEGA officers managed to guide the 33-year-old Austrian woman safely back to the stairwell.

She was then taken into the care of emergency medical responders, who transported her to hospital.

Austrian police stated that no other injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

The woman’s motive remains unclear, as she did not provide an explanation for her actions to police.

Woman faces investigation for property damage

Following the intervention, police filed a report against the 33-year-old woman on suspicion of property damage.

Damage to walls and two fire extinguishers was confirmed by police.

The exact amount of damage has not yet been disclosed.

It is not clear from available information whether she faces any further legal consequences.

Filing a report does not mean she has been found legally guilty.

Another dangerous police intervention in Vienna

Austria’s capital has recently been in the spotlight due to other security-related incidents.

Aktualizovane.sk has previously reported on incidents in European cities this October and November in the article “Halloween in Europe accompanied by unrest, attacks on police, fires, and looting.”

According to available information, Tuesday’s incident in Vienna was not connected to these other events.

The case concluded with the safe removal of the woman by police specialists and her transfer to hospital. The reasons behind her damaging the building and throwing objects from the roof remain unknown, with police yet to provide an explanation.
